Getting a leather jacket cleaned?

  • Dec. 15th, 2009 at 11:50 AM
I have a beater old leather jacket that I found at a thrift shop that I want to try to revive and repair. However, I think it needs a good cleaning first before I look at getting the lining and zipper replaced. There's no paint or excess decoration on it, but it's old, so I don't want the cleaning process to kill it.

Any good places in the Seattle area that do that? Bonus points if it's somewhere in Cap Hill, downtown, or anywhere south of I-90. Thanks!

'Tis the season for free pizza

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 9:51 PM
If you're the kind of Pagliacci customer that has their number on speed-dial, now* is a really, really good time to place an order.

They're giving their best** customers a pretty amazing deal. We ordered a small pie and a small salad last night, and paid the low low price of free. It was awesome, and you should consider placing an order to see if maybe you, too, are a lucky duck. (But y'know... Don't assume it'll be free. Just hope.)

*I don't know how long "now" will last.
**I don't know what determines "best" vs. the rest

golden gardens hitchhiker!

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 6:30 PM
I know this is a long shot, but...

There is a girl named Lauren who is a 20-something that was at Golden Gardens tonight around 4:30 pm. She blew a tire in her bike and I gave her a ride to Ballard on my way out of the park. She happened to leave her umbrella and one glove in my car, but I didn't notice until about an hour later after I ran some errands.

I would like to give her these things back, if possible...but I have no way to reach her. If this situation sounds familiar to anyone and your friend hitchhiked out of Golden Gardens today, can you tell her that I have her stuff? You can either email me (in userinfo) or she can contact me at my place of work, as she will likely remember where I work.

Thanks all! Please resume your regular programming.

I want to punch WA State Unemployment

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 3:58 PM
My husband has been unemployed since mid-September. Since that time, he has filed for unemployment and been making weekly claims. We received one payment (that was for 2 weeks) in October...then nothing...then randomly another (much smaller) payment a few weeks later. All the while, my husband has been looking for work, going on interviews, and filing weekly claims.

Cut.....because it is a lot of text........thanks for reading :) )

Has anyone had this happen with WA State Unemployment who might have any insight??

We are just feeling so defeated. Thanks...

And, if you must snark, well, I have no energy to counteract it...

ATTN: Hair people

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 12:46 PM
No, I'm not checking the memories or Google-fuing. Yes, this IS yet another hair post. I am clueless about hair and need personalized recommendations; I wouldn't know what to search for in the memories or on Google.

Want:
- Below $100
- Something simple, just want to be able to (at most) put a bit of product in hair in the morning and go; don't want to deal with styling myself.
- Information on "invisible layers"
- Someone who knows about Pacific Islander hair that has ridiculous volume and expands 3X its original size if I let it air dry and 5X its original size if I blow dry it. I want a relaxed look, not the 1980s "I teased and blew and scrunched for three hours this morning" look I usually have if I let my hair out of its ponytail (all suggestive language intentional).

In short, I'd like it to look like this all the time in all weather, instead of just for a few hours by freak accident:
If you snark about my appearance, I will be forced to hold up traffic for HOURS in suicide threat. )Thanks.

Needing Assistance - Employer Research Forms

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 12:20 PM
I am in the process of returning to school after being laid off and and I am pursuing funding (I have already been approved for Commissioner Approved Training and Training Benefits). To qualify for funds I need to have five Employer Research forms completed by Wednesday. Unfortunately I'm having considerable difficulty finding anyone willing to speak with me and I'm running out of time.

This is where you come in. I need people who are willing to give me 5 - 10 of their time to answer the questions either by e-mail or phone. If you work in Human Resources, are a manager in I.T. that has made hiring decisions (specifically working with Business Intelligence and hiring Business Analysts, Data Analysts, System Analysts, Developers etc.) or know of someone who is and is willing to help me please let me know. WorkSource may or may not call you to verify the information is correct.

Thanks and let me warn you in advance I have no time for snark as I have reservations and a job... Damn, scratch that last part.

PSA for the Carnivores

I was just over at Metropolitan Market at the top of Queen Anne. They're running a special today: buy one package of natural extra lean ground beef, get one free. I don't know if this is being offered at other MMs, but I figured that, at $4.99 per pound, people might want to know.

Looking for Recommendations

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 9:58 AM
Here's the deal -- my roommate and I are moving into a new place as of the first of the year, and are thusly in need of someone to come in and clean the old place.

So I would like to know whether there are any particular local cleaners that you, lovely Seattle denizens, have used and been happy with both them and their cleaning efforts.

(There's a specific reason I ask this -- we had hired someone to clean a previous place, and while she did a FANTASTIC job with the actual cleaning part, she was CRAZY. As in, did things like called me up while I was in Michigan to tell me that my roommate was a horrible slob, threw away six Nerf guns that we had in the closet, and tossed several graphic novels in the trash that we managed to save before the trash was taken out. So I am sure you can understand my desire to not have this repeated.)

For the record, we'd be looking at cleaning a 2 bdm, 1 bath, 1 floor apartment; there's hardwoods through most of it, w/ stone tiles in the kitchen, and carpet in the two bdms.

'pocalypse voided

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 5:54 AM
every single meteorologist in seattle should be fired.

average temp here in north seattle, per weather underground, is 36.3°, and the only white that you will see is your neighbour or the spaces between your own bloodshot eyes (either you should stop drinking or have that checked out, yo).

cancel the alert, chicken little.

Thanks in advance!

  • Dec. 12th, 2009 at 11:45 AM
My boyfriend and I are from Wichita, Ks. In February we're looking to moving up to Renton for his job. Rent here for a decent one bedroom is about $425, cigarettes are about $3.89 a pack and minimum wage is $7.55 an hour. So we're coming from some place relatively cheap to live. Aaron plays guitar and has been in a couple of bands, he's currently a sheet metal mechanic with Spirit/Boeing, which is about half an hour (driving time) from where we live. I am a cosmetologist and sometime crocheter. We have two cats and are pretty liberal people.

Under the cut I have a 20 or so questions. If you know the answer please let us know!
